Maggie Gallagher

Maggie Gallagher ...journalist, author and pro traditional marriage advocate

Maggie Gallagher is President of the newly founded Institute for Marriage and Public Policy (iMAPP. org) whose unique mission is research and public education on ways that law and public policy can strengthen marriage.

A nationally syndicated columnist, Ms. Gallagher is the author of three books on marriage and is the principal drafter of The Marriage Movement: A Statement of Principles (signed by over 100 prominent scholars and civic leaders) available at www.americanvalues.org. She has served as article editor of National Review and is one of the founding editors of the Manhattan Institute's City Journal. Her column appears in 50 papers nationwide, including The New York Post.

Recent major media appearances include: ABC's Nightline, CNN, CNN-International, The Jim Lehrer News Hour, Nationally syndicated public radio On Point, The Laura Ingraham Show, and Jim Dobson's Focus on the Family.

She speaks and debates on marriage frequently at college campuses including: Amherst College, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Pomona College, Yale University, Howard University Law School, Rutgers University, Rhodes College and Quinnipiac Law School, among others.

She has written for many major publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New Republic and the Weekly Standard.

Her most recent book (co-authored with University of Chicago Prof. Linda J. Waite), The Case for Marriage: Why Married People are Happier, Healthier, and Better-Off Financially (Doubleday, 2000), summarizes the social science evidence on the benefits of marriage for men, women, and children.

Maggie is a graduate of Yale (class of '82) and lives with her husband and two children in Westchester, New York.
